Kanye West, Joey Badass, Chuck D and other hip-hop stars have voiced their outrage on social media following the police-shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Sterling was shot in Baton Rouge while selling CDs on the street, while Castile died during a traffic stop for a broken taillight. Footage of both events surfaced online, launching an outpouring of grief and anger from the general public and #BlackLivesMatter affiliates in particular.

Joey Badass speculated that the events signify a deliberate conspiracy to stoke racial divisions in America:
“What the government is doing amongst our people is downright disturbing but not surprising,” he wrote on Instagram “With all of the conflict and propaganda, I believe they are simply trying to start a civil war within the USA amongst black & white,” he wrote. “They are simply pushing us to our limit so that we can all get together and rebel so that it makes it easier for them to kill us.”

Next USA law will be to confiscate all CAMERAS on blackfolk. Or to totally ignore any photo proof the way they ignore black mail complaints

These guys murdered this man with his 4 year old daughter in the backseat? Is there any situation where police get arrested? Or convicted?

Said it once and I'll say it a million times. As a black American I fear the police way more than Isis.

RIP #AltonSterling too disturbing to accept. Taking life away like it's not something we all equally deserve! God protect us all!
